Let's ride a bike to discover Nice

Fifth episode of our series of urban bike rides: this time to Nice, the capital of the Riviera!

Surrounded by the foothills of the Alps on one side and the Mediterranean on the other, Nice is a preserved city, which enjoys a peaceful living environment. Long affiliated with neighboring Italy, the city retains a very strong influence, whether through its architecture, its gastronomy or even its local dialect. Nissa la bella hasn’t finished seducing!

9:20 am / Cathédrale orthodoxe russe Saint-Nicolas

Not far from the station by bike, enjoy this orthodox cathedral, one of the most important outside Russia.

10 am / Promenade des Anglais

Situate the promenade on maps

Go down Boulevard Gambetta to join the famous Promenade des Anglais, a must in Nice! Once on the Promenade, head west to enjoy the magnificent view of the sea for longer before turning back towards Colline du Château.
During this walk do not hesitate to stop to discover the Gardens and the Villa Masséna as well as the Negresco Hotel!
There are many restaurants in the area.

Situate the colline on maps

Climb the Colline du Château on foot for the bravest or by elevator for the others. Once at the top, you will have a splendid view over the whole bay. Along your walk discover many mosaics.
Nearby, also take a look at the Casteu waterfall and the Tour Bellanda.

2:30 pm / Port Lympia

To go to Port Lympia, come down from the hill to pick up a Vélo Bleu. By passing the point of Rauba-Capeu, you will arrive then in front of the Port and its multiple boats!
Notre Dame du Port neoclassical style church is a must in the neighborhood.

4:30 pm / Vieux Nice

Situate Vieux Nice on maps

Along the Promenade du Paillon you will find the Vieux Nice and its colorful little streets! Put down your bike to enjoy the the typical architecture of the district. Here are some of the must-see places in the neighborhood:

  • Opéra de Nice
  • Cours Saleya with its traditional flower market
  • Place Rossetti with the Cathédrale Sainte-Réparate
  • Chapelle de la Miséricorde

7 pm / Place Massena

A real jewel of the city center, Place Massena is where the people of Nice meet. Witness to nearly two centuries of history, this urban development was recently renovated to accommodate the passage of the modern tramway. In the south of the square is the fountain of the Sun where a statue of Apollo proudly sits
In parallel to the square, you will fall on the Rue Paradis, a charming small pedestrian street which hosts many luxury shops.
Finally, the Jardin Albert 1er is the perfect place to recharge your batteries after a good day of effort. Enjoy a magical sunset between the palm trees with a view of the Mediterranean as a bonus!
