Rennes is the third most popular city for cyclists in France. Brittany's largest city already has almost 232 km of cycle paths and it doesn't intend to stop there! Indeed, in its Urban Travel Plan adopted in January 2020, the Rennes Metropolis has drawn up a Cycle Express Network connecting the 15 communes of the agglomeration. The CEN will include 104 km of additional cycle paths by 2024. So many new infrastructures that have to be inaugurated on STAR bikes, the city's shared bike system !
In June 1998, Rennes set up a public bike share system: it was considered as the first to be computerised in the world! Rennes’s public bike share system was the second experience of shared bikes in France after the yellow bikes of La Rochelle launched in 1974. In 2009, the service changed its name and operator. Since then, Vélo STAR has been managed by Cykleo. Today, Rennes’s shared bikes have 55 stations and over 650 vehicles available. Qucit has been accompanying Cykleo since 2019 and is helping the operator to guarantee a high availability rate of bikes and terminals by optimising the rounds to rebalance the stations.
