Created in 2007, Vélib' Métropole is one of the first shared bike services in the world. The aim of the Vélib' Métropole service is to facilitate the development of new forms of mobility in the Greater Paris metropolitan area. With 1,400 stations in Paris and 55 municipalities in the metropolis, the Vélib' service is the largest bike-sharing system in the world, by the end of 2020! Since January 2018, Smovengo is the operator of the Vélib' system, relying on a team of nearly 500 employees!

2021, the beginning of the partnership between Smovengo and Qucit!

In 2021, it is the beginning of the partnership between Smovengo and Qucit with more than 100 000 operations made by Smovengo's teams on Qucit Bike!

The year 2021 also saw 600,000 different users renting the 20,000 metropolitan bikes present in the 1,400 stations. That is more than 116 million kilometers traveled!

Solution

An intuitive software based on predictive & dynamic logistic

Since 2021, Smovengo has used the Qucit Bike software stack to improve its operational efficiency. Qucit Bike consists of:

  • An intuitive mobile application for rebalancers that optimizes routes and tasks to be performed in real time;

  • A dashboard for the Operations Manager that allows them to track key productivity indicators, key system performance metrics and simplify the management of field agents.

Mohamed Ali Kari testimony

Head of IS Operations at Smovengo

What was the challenge you faced before working with Qucit?

“The main challenge was to minimise human action in assigning tasks to the controllers.

Without a tool like Qucit, the control centre teams have to manually try to anticipate the bike movements on all stations several hours in advance and, as the result, define the movements of the teams in the field.
The other challenge was to optimize the distance and number of journeys made by these agents in the Greater Paris area, in particular through intelligent sectorisation.”

What impact has Qucit Bike technology had on your day-to-day operations, particularly in terms of rebalancing?

"Qucit Bike allows us to free up time at the control centre by letting the algorithm suggest the best tasks to the agents.

In this way, the control centre can take care of other important tasks for the operation of the fleet.

The "Zones" feature helps us to significantly reduce the travelling time of the controllers and to modulate the zones that have to be regulated as needed."

How has the tool been adopted by the various stakeholders at Smovengo ?

“Right from the start, the tool was well adopted by all the stakeholders, from managers to agents and the control centre.
The fact that the Qucit team was by our side throughout the implementation phase played a very important role. Indeed, the remarks/requests coming from the agents were took into account and most of the time implemented quite quickly by Qucit, which greatly contributed to the acceptance of the tool by the agents.”

How is Qucit Bike used on a daily basis by the different teams?

“Control center: The members of the control centre consult the Qucit map in real time on a giant screen in order to see the evolution of the fleet. If there is an urgent need for more bikes, they create tasks directly for the agents.

Managers:  Managers consult the agents' routes and change their zone according to the field needs. Thanks to Qucit, managers have the necessary reporting to follow and optimize field operations.

Agents: Agents access and choose different intervention proposals on their mobile application. Each recommended task is optimized by predictive and logistic algorithms.”
