Helsinki, the capital of Finland, is a land of cyclists! The Finnish capital has no less than 1,200 kilometers of bicycle paths that make it easy to cross the entire city. To get away from the bustling city center to the peaceful fields and forests of the surrounding countryside, cyclists can rent a bike from the Helsinki City Bike system! Initiated in 2016, the Helsinki City Bike system now has 4,570 bikes placed across 457 bike stations in Helsinki and Espoo. Operational from April to November, winter conditions make field operations difficult. However, due to the growing popularity of the bikes and the efficiency of the service, the City of Helsinki is currently evaluating the option of year-round operation starting in 2024.
Helsinki City Bike is operated by the City Bike Finland consortium, consisting of Moventia, a leading Catalan company in public transport and mobility solutions, and Smoove, a leading French company in bicycle sharing systems. Since August 2022, Qucit contributes to the good management of the system by assisting City Bike Finland in their rebalancing operations in the municipalities of Helsinki and Espoo.
In our next post, we will discover the bike share system in La Rochelle!
