Under the summer sun, in the shade of palm trees, let yourself be carried away by the Canary Islands in Spain. It all happens in Las Palmas, a city renowned for its blue water paradise. In the capital of Gran Canaria, in the heart of the Atlantic Ocean, tourists can enjoy activities such as surfing, climbing and swimming in the sea. Nature lovers will prefer the sea, with Las Canteras beach, for example, considered as one of the most beautiful urban coasts in the world.
The topography of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is characterized by several ravines and slopes that divide the city into two levels and separate neighborhoods. The geomorphology and the urban structure of the city result in difficult terrain for the development of cycling networks, and those conditions have resulted in private cars making up a big part of the modal split.
In recent years, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has developed mobility strategies and relevant technical measures to encourage and foster the use of alternative sustainable modes of transport, spanning public transport, cycling and walking. In this context, the bike sharing system Sitycleta, was created in 2015 and now has 440 bicycles for 50 stations.
Since July 2022, Sagulpa, the operator of Sitycleta, has been using our Qucit Bike software for its daily rebalancing operations.
In our next post, we will discover the bike share system in Lisbon!
