In terms of micro-mobility, Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole is making great strides by investing considerably in many projects related to bicycles. Its inhabitants can benefit from the e-bike purchase or bike repair subsidies. An investment deemed necessary for this dynamic region, which welcomes 8,000 new inhabitants each year. The City's objective is ambitious: to increase the number of bicycle trips from the current 3% to 10% by 2026. To do this, the City plans to work more on the cycling infrastructure coherence to better connect its suburbs with the city center. With this in mind, the Metropole has built 40 km of cycle paths in 2021, bringing the cycling network to 160 km! The metropole of Montpellier also aims to install specific signage, following the example of Dutch cities, which have lights adapted to the bicycle circulation, equipped with sensors to optimize cyclists' journeys. This soft mobility supportive policy is also reflected in the bike share system, Vélomagg’!
Launched in 2007, Vélomagg’ now has 400 bikes spread over 57 stations managed by the TAM, Transports de Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole. Thanks to its success, the system has developed a lot in fifteen years. Thus, the TAM called on Qucit to support the growth of its system while optimizing operating costs. So since January 2020, the TAM field teams have been using Qucit Bike which helps them in station rebalancing. In that way they guarantee an optimal system for all Vélomagg' users.
