Well known for its carnival, its football and its heavenly beaches that make us dream, Rio de Janeiro is less known for its ranking in the ten most congested cities in the world. For this reason, in 2016 the City decided to develop and reorganize its public space by building new bike paths. Today Rio is the city with the most bike lanes in South America, with more than 400 km of infrastructure! Locals and tourists can enjoy a magnificent 12 km track along the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema. Since 2018, they can even do this ride by borrowing a Bike Rio Itaù!

Rio de Janeiro was the pioneer city in Brazil in terms of bike sharing systems, since the first system was inaugurated in 2011, almost ten years before Sao Paulo! Today, the inhabitants of Rio can benefit from the 3100 bicycles and 310 stations of Bike Rio managed by the operator Tembici. Given the success of the system, since 2020, Qucit has been assisting Tembici with Qucit Bike in the management of station rebalancing operations to ensure an optimal 24/7 system for Bike Rio users.

In our next post, we will discover the bike share system in Sao Paulo!
