Porto Alegre, the greenest capital of Brazil, is also an important cultural center. Its Biennale do Mercosul has been for 20 years one of the most important contemporary art events on the American continent. Although the city organizes since 1996 the famous “Volta Ciclística de Porto Alegre”, namely the tour of Porto Alegre, the practice of cycling has long remained marginal. In order to reduce road trafic in its historic center and attract more tourists, the City installed a new bike sharing system in 2018, the Bike POA!
A gamble paid off for the City ! Indeed, one year after its launch, Tembici, the system manager, announced a 421% increase in bicycle trips in the city! Residents and tourists of Porto Alegre can now use 410 bikes and 41 Bike POA stations. In order to guarantee an optimal system, Qucit has been assisting Tembici since 2020 in the management of its bike sharing fleet. Qucit Bike is thus used by field teams who adjust the number of bikes in the stations to best satisfy users.
In our next post, we will discover the bike share system in Recife!
