Qucit in Barcelona for the Smart City Expo World Congress!
On 16 and 17 November, the Qucit team travelled to Barcelona, Spain to attend the Smart City Expo World Congress 2021.
What is the Smart City Expo World Congress?
The Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) is considered the leading international summit dedicated to smart cities and urban solutions. This year, exceptionally, two events coexisted as Fira de Barcelona also organized the Tomorrow Mobility Congress (TMWC) during these 3 days. According to Ugo Valenti, director of the Smart City Expo World Congress, "this year's event has proven to be one of the most important editions of Smart City Expo.
More than 14,000 participants from 120 countries, 400 cities and 350 experts were present in Barcelona. This will re-launch the global debate on urban transformation with resilience, sustainability and livability as key themes in a post-pandemic landscape. Another special feature this year is the presence of a digital platform broadcasting the event live. More than 16,000 participants were able to follow the three days of broadcasted content and interviews.
What is the objective of the Smart City Expo World Congress?
The main objective of the Smart City Expo World Congress is to address the main current urban challenges. Through a program with various themes, we find the economy, technologies, energy and environment or urban mobility. It is on this last theme that some French actors met on November 17 to defend their vision of the sustainable city, on the main stage of the Agora Centrale.
Among the participants were Patrice Vergriete, president of France ville durable; Antoine du Souich, director of strategy and innovation for the public institution; Baudouin Roos, sales manager for Spain at Terranis; Franck Lascaux, head of the air quality program at Elichens; Jacques Beltran, vice president of the public sector at Dassault Systems; and Brigitte Bariol, general manager of the Fnau. This plenary session was also an opportunity for participants to discuss the 2024 Olympic Games, which according to the French players, could allow the city of Paris to embody "the city of tomorrow".
Qucit Bike at Smart City Expo World Congress: optimizing urban mobility to help make cities more sustainable
For Qucit, the SCEWC conference was an opportunity to :
To physically meet our partners after a year and a half of health restrictions
To participate in the “Elevator Pitch” session, on the theme "Citizens’ Future Mobility".
Throughout the congress, we were able to walk through the huge hall of the Fira de Barcelona to discover the many exhibitors. An ideal playground that allowed us to meet potential partners and to immerse ourselves in the data ecosystem with IoT players, visual recognition or platform providers.
Our booth was integrated in the Innovation Zone, the space dedicated to smart city startups. It was particularly interesting to be able to reconnect with the urban innovation ecosystem with these many companies rooted in sustainable urban transformation. It also allowed us to share our vision of predicting human behaviors through AI on predictive, especially by presenting through our software Qucit Bike.
If our software contributes to making our cities more pleasant, efficient and sustainable, Qucit Bike has the particularity to improve urban mobility by optimizing the assistance to the rebalancing and maintenance of self-service bicycles. More specifically, Qucit Bike increases the efficiency of field operations such as the collection of unloaded electric bikes or the maintenance of stations. To do this, we forecast how many bikes will arrive at a station and how many will leave, hour by hour, up to 24 hours in advance. Then we calculate an optimal target number of bikes for each station, which will ensure that the station remains balanced for as long as possible. The main objective of Qucit Bike is to make our cities more pleasant, efficient and sustainable.
See you at the Smart City Expo World Congress in November 2022?
In conclusion, the keen interest shown by visitors and the abundant initiatives of exhibitors demonstrate that cities and companies are uniting in a common direction: the Smart City.
