Focus on Toronto, Canada!

Our blog posts series presents the different cities with which Qucit has partnered to offer mobility system optimization solutions. Discover how our solutions contribute to improving urban mobility in these areas!

Ranked as the most sustainable city in North America, Toronto has made great environmental progress in recent decades! With its 16,000 trees per m2 and its green roofs, becoming mandatory since 2010, Canada's largest city is a green oasis in the middle of an urban landscape typical for the American continent. Who says sustainable development, says sustainable mobility too! The city has 855 km of cycle paths and a large pedestrian zone located on the 15 islands that surround the city center. In order to encourage soft mobility, the City launched in 2011 its first self-service bicycle system - Bike Share Toronto!

Bike Share Toronto now has 6,852 bikes, including 300 electric, and 625 stations, which makes this system the largest in North America! The popularity of this system has been steadily increasing since its inception. Only in 2020, the number of users increased by 22%. To ensure a reliable and balanced system for users, Qucit has been supporting the operator Shift Transit since April 2020. From this date, rebalancers have been using the Qucit Bike app to optimize station rebalancing. The collaboration between Shift Transit and Qucit has notably enabled the operator to reduce the number of empty stations by 68% and to increase the availability of its bicycles by 66%!

In our next post, we will discover the bike share system in Montpellier !
